Toyota Sienna mirror trim cover, reverse-engineered
A missing trim cover under the side mirror of a 2011 Toyota Sienna, 3D scanned on the van and printed to fit.

The challenge
On a 2011 Toyota Sienna, a small plastic trim cover closes off the underside of the side-mirror base where it meets the door. On this van the cover was gone, leaving an open hole with the mirror wiring and connector showing. The replacement had to follow the curve of the mirror base, fill the opening neatly and clip into the existing mounting points.
Our process
- Placed scan markers on the mirror base and door around the empty opening.
- 3D scanned the mirror base and the opening on the van.
- Designed a cover in CAD to fill the opening and follow the shape of the mirror base.
- Printed the cover on supports.
- Test fitted the printed cover on the van and checked how it sat against the mirror base.
The result
The printed cover clips into the opening under the mirror and follows the line of the mirror base, closing off the wiring that was showing before. It was designed from a scan of the van itself, so it fits the opening on that vehicle. The same scan-and-design approach works for other small trim pieces that are lost and hard to find.
